Dark Romance

Dark Romance are similar to the Bodice Rippers of the 1970's-2000's.
Dark romance novels often come with content warnings, and they can contain kidnapping and captivity in their plots. Some dark romances do explore lack of consent, though what sets them apart is the focus on more emotional catharsis and darker themes, then mainstream romance novels.

Dark Romances run the gamete of themes (including horror, fantasy, historical, gothic, contemporary).

Amaryllis Lanza describes this genre as , ".. (Dark Romances) are written to elicit strong emotions. They excite the mind..and produce a sense of satisfaction in their conclusion, In either finding true love, or overcoming a horrible set of circumstances, there is a sense of relief and joy for the characters and the reader.

-Dark Romance heroes can be anti-heroes, characters who, on the surface, seem irredeemable, hateful or even evil.

-Some Dark Romances explore dark themes and feature flawed characters.

-Some Dark romances would be considered "tame" by Bodice Ripper standards and may even fall into the "clean"/ "sweet" romance category. Whilst others would surpass "Bodice ripper" status.

-Ultimately, Dark Romance is a story of redemption and a story of hope.

You can read or borrow a book if the bar underneath the cover says "Borrow" or "Read." If a book says it is "not in library" or "checked out," another copy might still be available! Click on the book's cover to see if you can borrow one of the other editions.

To view all the books in the collection- "click" on the subject headings to see all the books in a list view.

If you are seeking earlier published "Bodice rippers" there is a separate collection which covers 1970-2000 and a "sleazy pulp" collection which covers years 1940-1970.
